Eight College of Engineering programs rise in U.S. News undergraduate rankings

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In the recently released 2020 U.S. News & World Report Best Undergraduate Schools rankings, eight Penn State engineering specialty disciplines rose from last year’s rankings, with five of the eight disciplines making significant jumps.

Environmental engineering, ranked number 12 in the country, and electrical engineering, ranked number 18 in the country, both jumped up five spots from last year’s report.

Aerospace engineering, ranked number 12 in the country, and computer engineering, ranked 19 in the country, both climbed four spots from last year’s report. Mechanical engineering, ranked number 14 in the country, jumped up three spots.

Three programs — agricultural and biological engineering (remained the same at 10), industrial engineering (up one spot to eight), and materials engineering (up one spot to 10) — are ranked in the top 10 of their specialty categories.

In addition, civil engineering, ranked 13 in the country, jumped up one spot, while biomedical engineering is new to the rankings at number 29 in the country.

Overall, the College of Engineering was ranked 25th in the country.
