Reed named data science student marshal for spring commencement

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The department of computer science and engineering has named Jordan Reed, a data science major and dual mathematics and French minor, as the student marshal for data science.

Reed has chosen Mehrdad Mahdavi, assistant professor of computer science and engineering, as his faculty escort.

College of Engineering marshals are selected for their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.

Reed is both a Leonhard Engineering Scholar and a National Merit Special Scholar. While at Penn State, he competed in the 2017 ASA Datafest as a member of the team Psilent But Deadly, the winning team of the competition. He was also active in extracurricular activities including his involvement with THON. His roles in THON included R&R committee member for 2016, DR committee member for 2017-2018 and dancer for 2019.

Reed worked as a math tutor for LionTutors, teaching Math 251 and 140. He also held an internship at Lockheed Martin where he worked on full-stack development.

After graduation, Reed will work as a software developer for Lockheed Martin.
