CSE Student Lab Access During COVID-19 Response Period

All CSE student labs listed below will remain closed through the end of the semester to help in controlling COVID-19. The duration of closures may change if University leadership determines it is best to do so. Note that all systems in student labs will be available for remote access through the PSU VPN and the COE VPN (in addition to the already in-use CSE VPN).

  • LINUX users: connect via the command line in a terminal using
    • "ssh -X <YourCSEUserid>@cse-p204inst??.cse.psu.edu" where question marks are machine number.  Example: “ssh -X abc123@cse-p204inst01.cse.psu.edu”  You will be prompted for your CSE Password which is different from your Penn State password.
    • Or leave off the "-X" if you do not need to forward your xsessions for graphical display.
    • Be sure to watch your duo client for push notifications when connecting.
  • OS X users:  
    • If graphical UNIX/LINUX applications are needed users will need to install XQuartzhttps://www.xquartz.org
    • Use the "terminal" app and connect the same way as LINUX users.
    • Be sure to watch your duo client for push notifications when connecting.
  • Windows 10: Download  MobaXterm  https://mobaxterm.mobatek.net
    • Once installed, and run choose "Session" -> "SSH" fill in your the hostname you wish to connect to and your CSE userid. When you connect you will be prompted for your CSE password.
    • To transfer files select "Session" -> "SFP"  
    • Be sure to watch your duo client for push notifications when connecting.

Getting CSE IT help during the COVID-19 response period:

Email helpdesk@cse.psu.edu with a description of your problem or request. If we need to screen share, we will reply to your request with instructions on how to do so at a time convenient for you. This will enable us to diagnose issues while you are working remotely.
